Bra Color For A Cause

Tuesday Feb 9, 2010

We all know that by taking one look at a person’s facebook profile can tell us a lot, perhaps too much, about their lives- relationship status, hair color, favorite movie, bra color? Women are now taking the fight against breast cancer to a new and extraordinary level by simply stating the color of the bra they are wearing on their facebook statuses. It is causing some controversy, but as the old saying goes, there is no such thing as bad press.

The Washington Post reported that a message was sent to women all across the world pushing this cause. The message read “Some fun is going on . . . just write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of breast cancer awareness. It will be fun to see how long it takes before people wonder why all the girls have a color in their status Haha.”

As the cryptic single word statuses took over facebook, many people searched Google to find out the meaning. Anger was the strange reaction of many people. Groups such as “Awareness For Breast Cancer is not about the COLOR of your BRA!” and “I Kept My Bra Color To Myself – And I Still Support Breast Cancer!” have spread all over facebook and thos in opposition continue to reject this silly movement.

A silly movement is precisely what this is. Breast cancer is a serious disease that effects many women all across the world every single day. BUT-Anything that brings awareness to breast cancer is OK to me. It is a shame that so many people have turned a positive and fun movement, though “silly,” into a moral fight. A woman’s bra color may be a tiny bit personal, but they are not posting photographs! Come on, people!

“Many survivors were upset by the now infamous bra color postings of earlier this week. I was not, and I AM a survivor. It was stupid, but I did participate. Why? Because it got people talking about breast cancer. How did bra color relate to breast cancer? It didn’t, but it got us talking. So, in a way it worked,” said Marcia Hahnfeld Deitrick, a breast cancer survivor.

So why not put your bra color on your status? It isn’t causing anyone pain. It is only bringing awareness to a noble cause. So, with pride and hope, I say PINK!

Herpes Outbreaks: A Must Read Article!

Sunday Feb 7, 2010

The stages herpes outbreaks can be difficult and painful. However, with understanding and knowledge, outbreaks can either be stopped altogether or at least have the most intense symptoms minimized. Herpes outbreaks can be best explained by detailing the stages of the virus and the symptoms of an outbreak.

The herpes simplex 2 virus (genital herpes) is transmitted through sexual contact. After the virus enters the body through the soft mucous membranes of the genital area it is quite possible that it may lie dormant for months or years. While the virus is in a dormant state in a bundle of nerves at the base of your spine – called ganglia – it is impossible for your immune system to recognize it, and this is what makes the HSV2 virus so elusive. Genital herpes has no cure.

After the virus is activated (and science is not exactly sure what activates the symptoms of genital herpes; possible suggestions are unresolved anger, high levels of stress, exposure to ultraviolet light, and/or decreased immunity), it will start traveling along nerve paths in your genital area and begin the process of what may become a full herpes outbreak. Initial symptoms at the outbreak site can be tingling, slight burning and intense itching.

Your immune system will sense the virus in your body and begin to fight it almost immediately. You can know this to be true by the immune fighting responses your body will experience, such as swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, headaches, and possibly fever. Often (with a little boost) your immunity can abort the attack or the severity of the herpes outbreak can be decreased. A few recommended immune supplements would be Vitamin C, zinc, oil of oregano and/or panax ginseng.

Should the virus develop into a full herpes outbreak, you can expect a single sore or lesion, or a small cluster of bumps, a rash, or any combination of the described. Swelling and pain are also possible. Not all herpes outbreaks are identical and they can very drastically in severity and duration. What is reported as very common is the intense itching and burning at the site of the outbreak for several days.

As the herpes symptoms start to heal, you should experience a decrease in any swelling, redness or pain. A crust should also form over any sore or blister which protects the new skin growing underneath. It is vital to not physically interfere with the healing process in any way as this could cause scarring. Please note that it is rare for any pain or residual effects to remain after the outbreak has completely healed.

The Value of Home Care And Individuals With Advanced Cancer– The results of a German Study

Sunday Feb 7, 2010

Researches from Germany conducted a study to evaluate the significance of home care patients suffering from advanced cancer. Results were published in Med Klin, 15;95(3): 136-42.

Analysis of the study was derived from interviews with relatives of patients with terminal cancer diseases. They had participated in the home care of 50 consecutively treated patients 2 years previously.

The value of home care was evaluated on the basis of the personal experience of those concerned. Data showed that the holistic concept of palliative home care could be implemented by a specialized team at a high quality level.

Under the favorable conditions of the familiar surroundings, an atmosphere of trust developed as a result of the cooperation with the family members, people close to the patients and with family doctors. It contributed to a relatively high quality of life and to alleviate the emotional stress. Most of those involved were able to accept the hand of fate. On this basis, the terminal phase could be satisfactorily arranged and preparations made for a good quality of death.

During the home care, appreciation of the value of the family increased. The intensified family relations were mostly sustained after the patient’s death. The results document the great personal importance of home care for patients, their caretakers and families. The positive experience and the awareness of having contributed substantially to coping with the life crisis made it easier for the bereaved to grieve and to rearrange their life. Stepwise discriminant analysis was performed using admission, discharge, and combined variables. In our final model of the predictors of discharge disposition, the use of admission functional variables, age, and sex correctly classified 100% of the NH group and 91% of the other group, with IADL, ADL, and mobility defining the function that discriminated the groups.

In conclusion, other studies have been conducted on predictors of bereavement outcomes in family caregivers of persons who have died of cancer. The literature has been divided into common themes of predictors: characteristics of the deceased person, characteristics of the bereaved person, comparisons of bereaved and non-bereaved persons, well-being of the bereaved person prior to the death, prior interpersonal relationships, characteristics of the illness, characteristics of the caregiving experience, and characteristics of terminal care.

A number of recurring patterns point the way to identifying persons who may be at increased risk for poor adjustment during bereavement. It is apparent that men and women express their grief somewhat differently. Whether men or women are at greater risk for poor adjustment, however, remains to be determined.

There is some empirical evidence to suggest that lower socioeconomic status and linguistic barriers interfere with adjustment during bereavement. There is a dearth of culturally relevant services to help palliative-care patients and their family members make the required adjustments. The literature makes apparent the need for open awareness of the impending death and for careful and thoughtful planning for where and how the death ought to occur.

The regular and frequent presence of professional caregivers contributes to family caregivers’ satisfaction with care. Discrepant findings point to the need to explore the issues that underline them. Older bereaved caregivers appear to have some advantages over younger ones, but this finding is not universally found in the results of these studies. Methodological problems include small sample sizes and large variations in the particular bereavement outcomes studied.

Candida Albicans Thrush – Are You Sick?

Saturday Feb 6, 2010

A common problem is Candida albicans thrush. This fungus is generally found in the mucus membranes and within the G.I. tract. It is generally considered a natural part of your body’s flora and is often found on or in the genitals, anus, and mouth. It will also occasionally move through the blood to other areas of the body. Thrush needs moist conditions to thrive on the skin and is relatively healthy to have in moderate amounts.

When something changes in your body chemistry, such as major fluctuations in hormones or a round of antibiotics are taken, Candida albicans can grow at an uncontrolled rate. This is what causes the infection and the many problems of thrush. Thrush can be visible as white clumps, itching, and discomfort throughout the area.

Often, Candida albicans thrush is referred to as Monilia, especially when infection occurs in or around the mouth. Whenever there is too much yeast in a region of the body an infection can occur. Yeast cells generally colonize in typical areas in the body, in particular, the mouth, intestines, and genital regions. There are a few major factors that can cause this imbalance to occur.

The most common causes of thrush are the overuse of antibiotics without repopulating the body with probiotics, once the round of antibiotics has been completed. Antibiotics kill the friendly, yeast regulating bacteria in your body. Unfortunately, it kills the good bacteria as well as the bad, but does nothing to kill yeast cells. This then can allow Candida yeast to flourish unregulated, since there is nothing to keep the yeast in check. The most common overgrowth occurs within the mouth and the vagina. This happens because of the warmth, darkness, and moisture in these areas.

Candida Albicans is called thrush only when it occurs in the mouth. It is most often found in the mouths of infants. Once the mouth is infected it can spread to the esophagus and digestive tract. Rarely, it can infect other bodily systems. When it spreads, it is usually due to a compromised immune system due to other health conditions which inhibit the immune system.

The symptoms of Candida albicans thrush are a white residue, usually clumpy, red or bleeding patches of skin, and itching on the tongue, gums, and other mouth surfaces. Most experienced doctors can pick thrush up on sight. Cultures are taken to identify the type and to treat the particular type that is present. When the culture comes back positive for Monilia the doctor will normally treat it with a prescription antifungal. However, these often aren’t enough to keep Candida from coming back.

Treatment for thrush requires over the counter medications for the most part. More severe, topical cases are usually treated with either a prescription antifungal ointment. If you have thrush due to using antibiotics, stopping the medication can work to clear it up and is often the first recommendation. However, it is valuable to know what keeps Candida yeast alive which is sugar. Avoiding sugar for a period of time will effectively kill it but that is only the first step. The next step is to repopulate your body with friendly bacteria, or probiotics, which will work to keep any future yeast from overpopulating.

Thrush is not a complex problem and is often just due to slight changes in diet and lifestyle. Normally it will go away with time and some medication. If it is a reoccurring problem, it is something to be taken more seriously and the anti Candida diet is recommended along with the ebook Yeast Infection No More. This will ensure that Candidiasis will no longer come back since it is a thorough Candida cleansing program that truly works to make sure all of the problematic Candida overgrowth within the gut is destroyed and that the body is replenished with the friendly bacteria to maintain perpetual balance.

Obesity – The Dangers You Should Be Aware Of

Saturday Feb 6, 2010

While people do not technically die of obesity, somewhere between 100,000 to 400,000 Americans die each year from the diseases associated with it. Even at the conservative estimates, it is still a massive death toll; much higher than other causes of death which get a lot more press attention.

So, how do you know if you are obese? A formula called the body mass index (or simply BMI) is used to calculate who is obese. While those with BMIs of between 25 and 29 are classified as being overweight, those with a BMI of between 30 and 40 are considered obese. Regardless of exactly where you come on this scale, it is important to know the dangers of carrying around too much weight.

Remember that the heart must pump blood 24 hours a day to supply and move this extra weight, and it puts a big strain on it to do so. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the US, and those with a BMI of 25 or greater are twice as likely as anyone to die from it.

As over 80% of people who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes are also overweight, there is also a definite link between obesity and diabetes. Furthermore, it appears that being overweight increases the risk of some types of cancers, such as that of the kidneys and colon.

Those are just a few of the fatal diseases that have been linked to being obese. Diseases which are usually not life threatening, but affect quality of life are also a much greater risk for those who are overweight.

Those who are obese need to take action if they are serious about their health. While there is a ton of information available on the Internet, it is advisable to check with a physician.

Awareness of the dangers of obesity should be motivation enough for people to lose weight. Those at risk should check their BMI and take action today.

Increase Women’s Libido – How a 39 Year Old Nurse Boosted Female Libido Naturally

Thursday Feb 4, 2010

I’ve always been impressed with couples who remain to be very intimately active despite already reaching their 40’s. I was shy to communicate it at first but I later found out, I am not unaccompanied. This is the most important motive why I put in my time and money to discover how to boost women’s libido. At last, I found the resolution.

You see, I stumbled across wonderful healthy procedures that I actually learned in nursing school. After I put them together into habit, my libido has been as good as it was in my 20’s. My husband and I couldn’t be any happier!

Do you know that a big fraction of divorce cases in US stem from intimate displeasure of couples?

I have been in this situation a year ago and my marriage plus my family was in the border of severance. I knew I had to do something and out of this desperation, I scoured through the internet and magazines for a key but found nothing.

Primarily, let’s look at what is female libido and how do we heighten it up before I notify you with my techniques. Female libido in layman’s term is intimate desire. It has become quite taboo for most women and it is almost unthinkable to be discussed in public.

A recent inquiry exposes 60% of women are not contented intimately. There are a lot of factors that can contribute to this pretty high rate.

Age, for example is a main determinant that affects how a woman retorts intimately. As a woman’s body gets older, the abrasion phenomenon kicks in. From here, blood circulation does not carry as much oxygen and essential substances to the right organs that influence intimacy.

Hormones, on the other hand, are more indicative of intimacy dysfunction and low female libido. Women have two hormones that perform in conjunction with each other to advance a healthy intimate life, estrogen and testosterone. The former can be found primarily in females while the latter is better recognized to be in in complete overload in males.

Lastly, I cannot accentuate enough how diet and exercise can terribly influence a woman’s intimacy life. It all comes down to what foods are taken in and how the body moves on a day by day basis.

Our fondness on everything instant gives us so much more than what the body necessitates. Our system cannot tackle the wastes and thus maintains high amounts of surplus residues. This is very toxic to a woman’s intimacy.

I was guilt-ridden of all these and decided to completely put a finish to it once and for all. What I did was to consume a healthy balance of carbohydrates for energy, a healthy dose of fruits and vegetable soups on evenings and a bi-weekly run at the local park. It couldn’t get any easier!

I came about this article about on Increase womens libido naturally and I was struck with how this nurse solved her problem.

In addition, another article which talked about Low female libido was a great resource for me.

As a nurse, I knew how to increase women’s libido by the help of drugs and treatments but I decided to go natural thanks to a Filipino colleague of mine who instructed me to do so. Luckily for me, it worked like a charm!

Hemorrhoid Relief

We want to alert you to something that will affect 42% of the adult population at some point of their lives. It is called hemorrhoids and it’s basically every kind of vein inflammation around the lower rectal regions. If this happens, it is very important to get quick hemorrhoid relief. Hurting from Hemorrhoids? Holistic Hemorrhoid Relief, confirmed and painless. Hemorrhoids patients tested and advocated this Hemorrhoids treatment for it actually did work for them. A 100% natural Hemorrhoids cure that works, no risk and money back guarantee.

Blood on toilet paper? Aching in your anal area? Pain during constipation? Some of these are probably symptoms that you will need hemorrhoid relief, and it is no laughing matter. Although common, they are going to be irritating and discomfiting.

In the more serious stages, they will fall out like a lump outside your anus. So, what are some common mistakes that we make, which contribute to create this unpleasant condition? If you found hemorrhoid relief already, avoiding the following 3 mistakes can start healing the problem step by step.

Eating too much processed food. This can be a problem for some people. However, it’s well known that processed foods create harder stool and problems in digestion. This creates constipation and all other problems, which can lead to hemorrhoids. The key here, especially when you are hurting and deciding to cure hemorrhoids, is to decrease your eating of processed foods.

Sedentary modus vivendi. A lot of prolonged sitting is going to create additional pressure on the anal area and this invokes the ideal environment for a hemorrhoids to fall out if combined with a strong force such as pregnancy or constipation. The solution is to make sure you do not sit for over 1 hour at a time, and don’t forget to do stretches that support natural blood flow.

Consumption of unnatural medication and creams. This creates the same potential problem as processed nutrients. Numerous of the fiber supplements contain unnatural and artificial elements that can create side-effects elsewhere, and lastly, they are not attacking the source of the problem here, and not providing fast hemorrhoid relief. The other downside of these medicines which do not benefit is that they take away your time and the hemorrhoids can get even worse over time if the origin problem isn’t reversed.

So you must avoid these 3 mistakes, and you won’t be worsening your hemorrhoids. It’s very important to realize these in our contemporary lifestyle of sedentary office work and unnatural, lazy diets.

Still, not all hope is lost. I do have 1 hemorrhoid relief solution that has surprised me pleasantly. I’d like to review a totally safe, natural medication that works within a 3 days. It is already been confirmed by hundreds, if not 1000s of success stories in the alternative style of holistic medicine. The method contains ingredient resources, charts, audio classes and basically anything you need to heal your hemorrhoids once and for all. I really Phrase Variations it and just see the testimonials from customers who have triumphed even severe hemorrhoids for good.

Suffering from Hemorrhoids? Holistic Hemorrhoid Relief, proven and painless. Hemorrhoids patients tested and recommended this Hemorrhoids remedy for it truly did work for them. A 100 percent holistic Hemorrhoids treatment that works, risk free and money back guarantee.

Siberian Chaga Used in Russia as Cancer Drug

Thursday Feb 4, 2010

Siberian chaga mushroom appears as a black mass on birch trees, dead or alive. Occasionally, it may also be seen growing on hornbeam, ash, elm or beech.

Europeans have used chaga for centuries as a cure for digestive ailments, tuberculosis, and cancers of the liver and heart. [121]

The black “skin” was removed and the lighter inside boiled as tea. Being such a compact natural medicine made it a valuable, portable remedy for healers of old.

Today’s scientific focus on chaga extract is primarily as an anti-tumor remedy. In fact, it was approved in Russia as a cancer drug already in 1955, successfully used to treat cancers of the stomach, lungs, breasts and cervix. [122]

A modern study conducted in 1998 showed that chaga extract does indeed inhibit the growth of cervical cancer cells under laboratory conditions. [123] Another study from the mid-90’s found the active compound betulin to cause growth inhibition and death of melanoma cells, also in lab. [124, 25]

Additional research has shown cancer cell division to be decreased by some of the active compounds of the chaga mushroom. [125, 126]

Although traditional healers used to peel off the black outside (probably because it looked unappetizing), the skin actually contains 30% betulin, a highly prized medicinal compound, [127] while the inside is rich in fungal lanostanes. So both parts would be valuable in preparing the tea.

Even better are chaga extracts that are made with not only the whole mushroom but also the mycelium, because the mycelium contains higher levels of medicinal proteins than the fruit body of the mushroom.

Other research has found chaga to possess powerful anti-viral properties. In 1996, two studies published results of inhibitory effects on both influenza virus [127] and HIV. [128] Considering the nature of viruses, the most likely scenario is that chaga works on viruses by enhancing the body’s own immune system, a theory confirmed by a paper published in 2002 and another in 2005. [25, 129] The same mechanism may explain the reported anti-inflammatory effect of chaga. [130]

Furthermore, alcohol extract of chaga mushroom has been found to lower blood sugar levels. [131] Chaga also demonstrates significant antioxidant properties that help protect the genetic integrity of the cells. [132, 133]

As an interesting aside unrelated to human health, a Quebec arborist uses a chaga poultice to cure chestnut blight. The trees later even become immune to the blight and resistant to future infections. [134]

What is Bipolar Disorder Really

Wednesday Feb 3, 2010

While most people with bipolar disorder and their loved ones are told that bipolar disorder is either a chemical imbalance of the brain and/or a mood disorder that can be characterized by extreme mood swings, it is really so much more than that.

Thanks to a man named Aretaeus in the second century AD, bipolar disorder has very historical roots. Aretaeus was the first to believe that the manic and depressive symptoms he saw in certain people were linked.

The disorder is physiological, since it has to do with your body, but mental as well, since it has to do with your mind.

Since part of it is associated with your brain, bipolar disorder can also be considered a neurological problem; however, it is usually termed merely “physical,” and referred to simply as a “chemical imbalance of the brain.”

Scientists are studying the genes that may cause bipolar disorder and will prove the disorder has biological roots. If they are successful in finding the specific gene or genes involved in the disorder, it may eventually lead to a cure for the disorder. As with any other medical issue, there is still great debate in the scientific community, and there is quite a bit of research still to be done to find a cure.

You may find that your doctor will tell you that your bipolar disorder has a medical element, as well. There is a greater risk of physical symptoms (body aches, headaches, backaches, stomach aches, etc.) when you are in a bipolar depressive episode than when you are not.

If you talk to your psychiatrist about your bipolar disorder, he or she will, of course, tell you that bipolar disorder is a psychiatric illness. In the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), you’ll find the information that your psychiatrist probably used to diagnose you in the first place.

As many studies have shown, bipolar disorder is hereditary and may be passed down through families.

Bipolar disorder is without a doubt an emotional disorder. As anyone who suffers with the disorder can say, your mood may swing uncontrollably from depression to mania and back again, and you have little to no control over those moods. This also causes emotional side effects such as stress, anxiety, and insomnia.

As with many disorders, bipolar disorder has a very personal element to it, as well. Because there is such a stigma in our current society against mental illness, many people with bipolar disorder choose to keep the truth of their disorder to themselves. It becomes an intensely personal thing, and they may not tell others they even suffer from the disorder.

Bipolar disorder is truly more than a chemical imbalance of the brain or a mere mood disorder. It is both of these things – and more.

David Oliver has the #1 website for bipolar information, symptoms, causes, medications and treatments.

Candida Throat Infections Can Be Caused By Other Illnesses

Wednesday Feb 3, 2010

Candida albicans throat is also called Candida throat infection. This type of infection results from the overgrowth of the Candida fungus which naturally lives within our digestive tract. When we are healthy and our immune system is working properly, the body can control the spread of the fungus. But when we are stressed, or taking medications, a Candida infection may result.

Oral yeast infections can be caused by antibiotics, corticosteroids, or birth control tablets. Candida albicans throat infection can also be a side effect of some other illness such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, or uncontrolled diabetes. During pregnancy, a woman’s hormones are unbalanced which has been known to lead to Candida thrush.

Male Candida also belongs to the yeast infection Candida. However it is not usually associated with the throat. Male Candida is manifested by a rash on areas that are often damp such as the underarms, genitals and/or groin area. The symptoms are rash-like ,.

Candida symptoms can appear as a cluster of painful lesions on the inner cheeks, mouth or tongue. They often bleed whilst brushing your teeth. In the event of chronic Candida, the patient may also have difficulty in swallowing and run a high fever. If you get the feeling that food is trapped in your throat, or severe itching, this could indicate that the Candida infection has reached your esophagus.

The diagnosis of Candida throat usually occurs during a dental examination. If it is suspected that the infection has extended to the esophagus, an endoscopy may be necessary. A tiny camera is placed on a tube that is inserted in the throat and a video is taken. Or the dentist may take a swab of the fungus and have it examined with a microscope.

Candida is relatively easy to treat in most cases with mouthwash or gargle. However more severe Candida infections may appear in patients with weak immune systems. They may be required to use strong antifungal medications for up to 2 weeks or more. These are available in liquid form, lozenges or tablets.

Treatment will depend on the diagnosis of each individual case, and may vary according to age and the severity of the infection. Because Candida throat can be caused by other illnesses, the dentist may recommend that you see a medical doctor for further diagnosis. There may well be other underlying health issues causing the Candida infection.

In less serious cases, you can try a holistic natural remedy. Gargle with warm water and vinegar, or mix some tea tree oil with coconut oil and gargle regularly. If you use tea tree oil, be sure not to ingest it, as this is very toxic to the digestive system. Eat lots of yogurt containing probiotics. The label will indicate this. Probiotics are live bacteria that are able to fight certain infections. If you want probiotics to be more effective, try taking them in pill form where they are more concentrated.

You can do a number of things to prevent Candida throat. Follow a good oral hygiene regime every day. Brush and floss your teeth twice a day. Avoid the use of oral sprays and mouthwashes because they contain ingredients that can interfere with the balance of the friendly micro-organisms that are in your mouth.

Have regular check-ups at the dentist, especially if you have diabetes or if you wear false teeth. Don’t eat food that has a high sugar or yeast content. The primary food source of yeast is sugar. The Candida infection can be worsened by drinking beer, wine or eating bread. Finally, if you smoke, try and cut down or, better still, quit.
