Taking Steps To Trim Down With Fitflops
Posted by Fiona Fullerton | Under Fashion Monday Feb 8, 2010After her kids were born, ex-personal fitness trainer Marcia Kilgore found it difficult to make enough time to visit the gym and work out on a regular basis. Rather than just accept the fact that her lifestyle didn’t allow for gym time, she decided to take steps and do something about it. Working in collaboration with the London South Bank University (LSBU) she developed an entire range of fitness sandals and shoe called Fitflops.
Fitflops feature a specially engineered sole which is divided into three separate sections. Each area uses a different material to produce what the makers refer to as a “microwobbleboard” effect. The heel section is made from a high density material which helps to absorb impacts when walking. The middle section, which is the area from just behind the toes to the arch of the foot, uses a low density material and the front section uses a medium density material which makes it easier to maintain speed, variation and pace.
The result of this is that the duration of muscle usage is increased when walking normally – typically by 16%. Every step that you take when wearing your Fitflops helps to tone your legs and trim your buttocks. It’s like a free lower body workout just by walking about normally.
Normal, everyday walking in Fitflops will help you by maximizing buttock, calf and leg muscle usage, enhance your posture, burn calories and achieve better muscle tone. To cut a long story short – you can tone both your legs and buttocks simply by walking about as normal – in exactly the same manner that you do every day anyway.
The Fitflop range was released in the UK in 2006 – after extensive development work and trials at LSBU. They were a big success right from the start. Sales were so high that many people had to register on a waiting list in order to receive their Fitflops.
The original range, as you might expect given the name, was mainly made up of sandals. However, acting upon customer feedback, the range was extended and now includes not only a large choice of different styles and colors of sandals, but boots and clogs as well. Fitflop styles for both men and women are now on sale in America.
So, if like many other people, you struggle to find enough time for a trip to the gym, or even if you just find it difficult to motivate yourself to exercise, then maybe you should consider treating yourself to a pair of Fitflops. Wear them everyday instead of your normal shoes and you’ll exercise your lower body and trim down without having to alter your daily routine.
