While the job situation is difficult for everyone, the young teenage group appears to be having a particularly tough time of it. Typically seeking their first job of any sort, they are realizing that much more experienced people are in many cases applying for the same positions as they are. While they are willing to put forth the effort, employers are just not able to take the risk of hiring them right now.

One of the bad things about this recession is that it is giving the young workers of today a bad impression of the workplace market. If the lack of jobs goes on much longer, these young workers will have less work experience than they should and may have a bad attitude once they do finally get hired. Once can only handle so much rejection before their views of the world become tainted.

Young teens who can’t find or get real jobs may be forced to look elsewhere for money making opportunities. These might include the obvious things like babysitting, mowing lawns, pet sitting and other such things they can find around their neighborhood. Making money on this kind of side job has traditionally been the most popular ways to make money for youngsters

Unfortunately, due to the current economic situation, many families do not have the extra cash to spend on hiring teenagers. People are dining out less often, which means they do not need babysitters. Families are vacationing less, so that means they won’t need a pet sitter. There are also few lawn care opportunities because many people are choosing to cut their own yard.

Right now is just a difficult time for anyone who is unfortunate to be out of a job. If you are a teenager and wanting work, all you can do is keep looking. The more places you apply to and the more legwork you do, the greater your chances are of eventually breaking through and finding someone who needs your help.
