Health experts are constantly looking for newer and safer recent and safer paths to bring down high cholesterol levels. Amidst various other cholesterol lowering substances, consumption of fiber is being regarded as an important way to lower cholesterol. Including cholesterol in your daily diet can help in reducing your cholesterol level to a great extent.
There are a number of ways fiber consumption impacts the level of cholesterol in your body. For all desires and purposes, it becomes the carrier of cholesterol in your guts, and then takes it it out together with itself from your excretory system.
An alternative way that fiber can help maintain cholesterol levels is by inducing the liver to use up more quantities of it. Along with the elimination of cholesterol from the body, fiber also targets the bile salts present and gets rid of them effectively. To compensate for the loss of bile, the liver needs to produce more of the substance and does so by trying up more cholesterol thereby reducing the overall cholesterol levels present in the body.
Although it’s clear that fiber does indeed help reduce the level of cholesterol in our body, not every type of the substance can be as good as others in the act. Fiber can be classified into two groups- soluble and insoluble fiber.
Of the two, it’s the soluble form of fiber which is most efficient in the cholesterol reduction process. Some excellent sources of soluble fiber include oat bran, legumes, nuts, flaxseed, broccoli, sweet potatoes, onions etc.
Insoluble fiber, on the other hand, only helps move the waste through the body. Fruits, veggies, whole grains, wheat products, wheat oat, seeds etc are sources of soluble fiber.
If you really want to use fiber to lower cholesterol, then it is important that you consume a good amount of fiber as a part of your daily diet. However, if you find that tough, then the following tips can be of serious help to you.
Eat fruits and veggies with unpeeled skin. Try to consume as much whole grain as you can and opt for foods like wheat pasta, breads or crackers. Legumes and beans in particular are excellent source of soluble fiber. Make nice homemade soups out of these foods and you could very well enjoy your healthy cholesterol reducing break. Put together a sandwich with tons of cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, sprouts and so on. Alternatively, you can toss these ingredients to make a similarly delicious salad. Add a touch of vinegar to it for reinforced taste. Have a generous helping of oatmeal for breakfast. Eat fresh fruits instead of drinking fruit juices.
Increase the quantity of fiber in your diet and it’ll decrease the cholesterol level in your body.
